Dark Blue, a New Guy Film in association with On the Lot Productions will be produced as a SAG film
New Orleans, LA – March 7, 2011 - The independent film Dark Blue, starring Lance Nichols from Treme, Tracy Miller, Blake Palmintier and Shanna Forrestall is slated to start production this Saturday, March 12, 2011 in New Orleans, LA. The film has received the official notification from the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) that the film has been cleared under their regulations. Dark Blue will be produced by New Guy Films, LLC in association with On the Lot Productions, LLC. This will be the first film that the two production companies have joined together to make. Producers Dave C. Kirtland, CEO of New Guy Films, and Dr. Melissa Caudle, Owner of On the Lot Productions, LLC are both experienced filmmakers who were brought together by another colleague. “I knew from the start that the film was creative,” Caudle says. “When I read the script I couldn’t put it down.” Kirtland considered this a compliment as he is the screenwriter for the film. “The concept for the screenplay came easily for me,” Kirtland said. “I woke up one morning after a dream, and there it was in my mind. Kirtland is also directing the film. “We have been so fortunate in finding the perfect group of talented actors to bring to life our characters in one of the most photogenic cities in the country” Kirtland said.

On the issue of being a SAG film both Caudle and Kirtland are excited. “It brings credibility to our film and will make us eligible for the Academy Awards in our genre,” says Caudle. “We want to showcase not only New Orleans as a premier city to film in but also showcase our Louisiana cast and crew.” Dave Kirtland agrees with Caudle. “Having SAG status moves us forward in the right direction for future projects.” says Kirtland. “If we’re going to do a film, we’re going to it right.” “We can’t go wrong with the dynamic cast and crew we have assembled.”
Dark Blue is about Michael Callaghan, played by Tracy Miller, who is a morally inept New Orleans Detective on the police force. His perfectly corrupt life is thrown into turmoil after the sudden retirement of his long-time partner Detective William Pawelski (to be cast). The loss of his partner leaves him with the only constant in his dethatched world, Annie, played by Shanna Forrestall, whom his relationship hinges on the business side of prostitution. In midst of a precinct-wide internal investigation and possible street-justice coming Callaghan is assigned a new partner – Detective Danny Hopkins by his hard nosed and cynical boss Lieutenant Harris played by Lance Nichols. As the young Hopkins is eagerly trying to make his place with the old dogs of the precinct, Callaghan is desperately trying to cover his tracks as they try to solve who a string of murders involving criminals he himself is connected. Dark Blue is a ticking clock modern-day drama.

Reality Funding Book Published

150 Ways to Fund a Reality Show Book Published
New Orleans, LA – July 5, 2011 – Do you have a fantastic idea for a reality show but don’t have the money do produce it? If so, you are in the same position as a thousand other hopeful reality show producers around the globe. However, you will have one leg up on them if you follow the fundraising ideas in the book 150 Ways to Fund a Reality Show (ISBN: 10: 1460967135) written by Dr. Melissa Caudle, producer of five reality shows and author of The Reality of Reality TV book series. This book puts the fun back in fundraising. The book is available at Amazon, Books A Million, and other online retailers

The show follows these women as they juggle their daily home, social and work life. Having nothing in common, other than employment as sales clerks or managers at the store, these women find there’s more to life and as friendships become real. When one girl gets

pregnant they all come together to plan a wedding and a baby shower for the same day. Time is running out but will their friendship? “I love working with these girls,” said Dr. Mel Caudle, producer and director. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Caudle also states that she is excited to have the opportunity to bring the show to others through this deal. “It’s more than partying girls,” Caudle said. “As the girls interact, you see there is more to them than meets the eye. They are beautiful and intelligent.” Producers don’t deny that the cast holds the potential to be the next Kardashians, but partying isn’t the goal. Cast members tend to agree and look forward to the next five months of filming. Kelly Molina, the oldest cast member, said, “It’s not at all what you might be expecting from a reality show. We don’t eat bugs or have fist fights. We live our lives.”

A new book by Dr. Melissa Caudle, screenwriter and producer, encourages teen screenwriters to learn over the summer vacation and to produce their own films. The book, Just Beat it! is making a difference with the younger population as well as impacting older screenwriters. Caudle breaks the generation gap.
New Orleans, LA – May 6, 2012 – What comes to your mind when you think of summer? Is it school is out? Vacation time? Summer camps? That is not what producer and screenwriter Dr. Melissa Caudle thinks about when summer approaches. “For me, summer means that I get to go into a cold and dark movie theater and watch the new summer blockbuster movies,” says Caudle. “I love movies. Especially when summer gets here.” To Caudle, there is nothing better than getting out of the hot sun and into the cold air-conditioned theater and be entertained for the next couple of hours by a great action adventure, romantic comedy, or a science fiction movie. “Really, it doesn’t get better than that,” Caudle said.
Summer blockbuster movies are not the only thing Caudle looks forward to this summer. “I just released my latest book in my book series for screenwriters,” Caudle explains. “This book details how screenwriters can use a beat sheet, to write the next summer blockbuster movie.” The book, Just Beat it! How to Create and Design Beat Sheets, (available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Books A Million,) takes a screenwriter on a journey to help develop their screenplay using beat plot points. “It sounds more complicated than it looks,” Caudle says. “I provide the most thorough explanation on developing beat sheets that is available in any book currently on the market or for that matter, ever on the market. I also provide a Beat Sheet Development Form in the book that guides screenwriters through the most important elements for Acts I, II, and III.” The book is easy to read and provides everything a screenwriter needs to create a complex screenplay with essential plot points. “It is so easy to use and understand, a 14 year-old can use it,” Caudle said.
My research at the Summer Institute for Young Readers, New Orleans, proves that Caudle is on to something. The long and hot summer days are often a challenge for parents to find ways to keep their children involved and not to become bored. “I like my children to keep up with their math and English skills,” says Robby Stroud, mother of three boys. “The key is to involve your children in activities they find enjoyable and lock them into it. Boredom breads mischief.”
The alternative to boredom for Stroud’s children, ages 13 and 15, this year will be to challenge them into making their own summer blockbuster film. According to their mother, both children love the film process. Not only has Stroud been an extra on several films, but so have her boys Dylan and Taylor. “I like to be an extra,” Dylan Stroud, age 15, said. “I like to watch the films I’ve been in and find myself in it. I’ve gotten some pretty good camera time.”
Now, according to Dylan and Taylor, their next challenge is to figure out a way to make a short film themselves. “That’s where my aunt comes in,” Dylan said. Dr. Caudle is Dylan and Taylor’s aunt. Her books are fun to read and teens find them useful when wanting to write a screenplay. After talking with Dylan, he gave Caudle’s book, Just Beat it! a solid recommendation. “When I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down,” Dylan said. “My younger brother couldn’t believe that I was reading and learning during the summer break. I want to make my film, so I have to write a screenplay first. I’m lucky because Dr. Mel is my aunt and she inspires me in her books to want to read and then to make a movie.” Caudle told me that she was very surprised that her nephew’s wanted copies of my books. “I looked at them like they were crazy when they asked for my books, Caudle said. “Then their mother looked at me and asked me how I could turn them down.” “They wanted to read and learn,” Stroud said. “And, that is exactly what they are doing. Dylan has even created a new character for Mel’s television series based off of her information on how to develop characters.”
Caudle is on to something with her book. But don’t let the recommendation of a 14- year-old keep you as an adult from reading Just Beat it! How to Create and Develop Beat Sheets. The book are that informative and well written. Any writer serious about wanting to write a screenplay needs to start with this book and work their way through all of Caudle’s books. Two of the best features of her latest book are the real examples Caudle provides from her own short film screenplay The Keystroke Killer and from Dylan’s screenplay Tommy’s Song. In both cases, the completed beat sheet is included before the presentation of either screenplay. It is a refreshing approach to have a writer not only write what they mean, but to demonstrate the skill as well. This book as well as the other books written for screenwriters by Dr. Caudle should be the first books to be purchased. Her book series, Rescue the Dog: Quick Guidebook for Screenwriters include five other books including How to Write a Logline, How to Write a Synopsis, How to Create a One Pager, How to Write a Treatment, and Inside the Writer’s Mind: Using Past Experiences to Develop a Screenplay.

Dr. Caudle also wrote on a book for reality show creators. The Reality of Reality TV: Reality Show Business Plans ( ISBN: 978-1460916988), that offers the reader valuable insight into creating their reality show as well as how to write the business plans specifically for reality shows. This is the only book on the market that addresses this topic and has captured the attention of Hollywood Insiders. To assist the reader, The Reality of Reality TV Workbook (ISBN: 978-1460921593), is also available which contains over 40 Worksheets that guides reality show producers in the development of their business plan. The fourth book, The Reality Show Handbook, is expected to be published by September 2011.

BOOK SERIES FOR SCREENWRITERS
By Thomas A. Morris
How to Write a Logline Book Published
New Orleans, LA – January 20, 2012 – Who would have thought that a former high school principal from Louisiana would make it big in the film industry? That is exactly what has happened. Dr. Melissa Caudle, producer, screenwriter, and author of numerous books for screenwriters and reality show creators has become one of the most influential women in the film industry hailing from Louisiana. “I am stunned myself at the rate my books are selling, “says Caudle. “I saw a need in the industry and answered the call.”

Last year Caudle published five books for reality show creators including The Reality of Reality TV: Reality Show Business Plans, 150 Ways to Fund a Reality Show, and Fundraising for Low-Budget Films. These books have a proven record and are now selling worldwide. “My books have been translated into German, Japanese, and Spanish,” says Caudle. The proof is there. An online research of her books will take you to numerous websites around the world selling her books.
This year Caudle will release five additional books. On January 19, 2012, Caudle published How to Create a One Pager: Quick Guidebook for Screenwriters and How to Write a Logline: Quick Guidebook for Screenwriters. Within the next month, the third book in the series, How to Write a Synopsis: Quick Guidebook for Screenwriters will make its debut followed by Inside the Writer’s Mind: Developing a Script Using Your Past Experiences. New Orleans, LA – March 1, 2011 - The independent film Dark Blue, starring Lance Nichols from Treme and Curious Case of Benjamin Butttons, Tracy Miller from A Civil Action, Blake Palmintier and Shanna Forrestall is in pre-production New Orleans, LA. The film will be produced by New Guy Films, LLC in association with On the Lot Productions, LLC. This will be the first film that the two productions have joined together. Producers Dave C. Kirtland and Dr. Melissa Caudle are both experienced filmmakers who were brought together by another colleague. “I knew from the start that the film was creative,” Caudle says. “When I read the script I couldn’t put it down.” Kirtland considered this a compliment as he is a first-time screenwriter. “The concept for the screenplay came easily for me,” Kirkland said. “I woke up one morning after a dream, and there is was in my mind.”

Dark Blue is about a morally inept New Orleans detective named Det. Michael Callaghan (Tracy Miller) has his perfectly corrupt life thrown into turmoil after the sudden retirement of his long-time partner Det. William Pawelski (to be cast). The loss of his partner leaves him with the only constant in his dethatched world, Annie (Shanna Forrestall), whom his relationship hinges on the business side of prostitution. In midst of a precinct-wide internal investigation and possible street-justice coming for Det. Callaghan, he is assigned new partner named Detective Danny Hopkins. All of the feature roles have been cast. However, there are a few smaller roles. Those interested in submitting headshots send to darkbluethemovie@gmail.com
BRITNEY IS BACK!

Britney Spears inspired film headed to New Orleans

The goal is to begin filming BRITNEY AND ME, early May 2009. “May will come quick and there is a lot of work to be done before we roll the cameras,” Caudle says. “But, I am optimistic and know with the can do attitude of Louisiana actors and crew, this project will be a success.”
Caudle will also be the Producer/Director on BRITNEY AND ME and says she plans on using Louisiana cast for most of the leading roles and day players. An open casting call will be announced as well as contacting Louisiana talent agencies. Those unable to attend the casting calls in Louisiana can submit resumes, headshots and/or audition reels to onthelottalent@aol.com
Additionally, Caudle will be attending several acting classes held in Baton Rouge and New Orleans to find talent over the next couple of weeks. “I love to go to acting classes and sit and watch without the actors knowing that I am looking for talent,” says Caudle. “I guess the cat is not out of the bag as to why I attend these. I can’t go in obscurity any longer. There is a lot of undiscovered talent I have seen in these classes so far. ” Caudle has already attended classes held by Jerry Katz in New Orleans and plans on observing in Veleka Gray’s class early March.
The second production is a feature length science fiction screenplay from a first time writer/director from Austin, TX who at this time wants to remain anonymous until the right time to allow him to concentrate on the film without interruption. Caudle and On the Lot Productions, LLC will be the producers. “The story is very intriguing and futuristic taking place decades in the future,” says Caudle. Like the first project, Caudle will again use Louisiana crew and talent wherever possible. Production will begin immediately upon completion of the first with the projected date mid June 2009. Casting for this film will occur at the same time they cast the first project. “We hope to be able to find the talent we need at the same time,” says Caudle. “As a producer you always look to cut costs and save money. By having one casting call for two projects, we only have to rent a conference room once at each venue.” However, Caudle emphasizes that if talent isn’t found during the first round for both projects, they won’t stop until they find the right actors for each project. “I know a lot of actors here in Louisiana that I have worked with and have seen,” Caudle says. “I know we’ll find the right talent and quickly.” Breakdowns for both projects will soon be listed on the production company’s website at www.onthelotproductions.com .

The Director of Photography, Zach Natis, will lead the cinematography team for both projects. Natis has worked on numerous films, including the Emmy Award winning series ELVIS: THE MINI SERIES, and the television series FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and many more.
Interested crew members for both projects may submit resumes to onthelotprod@aol.com. Immediate need is a producer’s assistant and a production coordinator according to Caudle.

GROUND SURGE FOR THE KEYSTROKE KILLER
By Rebecca Sinclair
A New Orleans producer and screenwriter strives to open doors for others.
New Orleans, LA – February 10, 2012 – When you think of making films the first thing that comes to people’s minds is Hollywood. No longer is this the case. New Orleans, Shreveport, and Baton Rouge are hot. And, I do not mean the hot smoldering days of summer that living in Louisiana offers. Instead, Louisiana is the hottest state in America to produce films and reality television projects. Louisiana claims multimillion films such as Ray

and Curious Case of Benjamin Button as well as the smaller independent films making it big in America’s theaters. For one New Orleans producer and screenwriter, this hot bed is exactly what Dr. Melissa Caudle envisioned for more than a decade. Caudle is the CEO of On the Lot Productions, LLC (OTLP) and is involved in the film and television industry. “I always knew that both New Orleans and Louisiana would be perfect to film movies,” Caudle said. “I had no doubt we would become the number one state to film in when we established our film tax credits.”
OTLP is currently working on three reality shows and one television pilot. The television series, THE KEYSTROKE KILLER, is adapted from a short film written and produced by Caudle more than three years ago. Once released, the short film received worldwide attention and

received over 1 million hits on YouTube. A network contacted Caudle to develop the series in New Orleans and because of the contractual obligation; Caudle had to remove her version of the short film from Youtube. “I was a little disappointed that I had to take it down, but producers in Los Angeles thought it would be best because of the strategy we are using to cast the film and to locate screenwriters and production crew from Louisiana,” Caudle said. “Do you know how hard it is to get 1 million hits?”
Original cast members, as per the distribution company’s request, are going to have to go through the audition process along with everyone else and not guaranteed their roles. We discovered the reason for the new cast. According to the distribution agent, Mark Freehelm, “It’s not that the acting wasn’t good or anything.” They just want to update everything and some of the original cast isn’t available.” This means roles are wide open for the taking by Louisiana actors. In addition, new characters were created by Caudle due to the expansion of the short script to a television pilot screenplay.
A face Book site for the film, THE KEYSTROKE KILLER FAN SITE, is up and running. Any person can join the group and stay informed with the latest news on cast reads, auditions, crew etc. Caudle highly recommends that actors and potential crew join the group. According to Freehelm, the fan site is an

This strategy has never been used before, but Caudle insisted finding local talent and as she wants to showcase Louisiana talent – the state she calls home. “Louisiana has earned the reputation of being the number one film state in America, now people will know we have the number one actors to go with it,” Caudle said.
Caudle insists that she wants to find as many Louisiana screenwriters as she can. “As screenwriters in Louisiana we haven’t been as successful breaking into the Hollywood Insider Market with our scripts,” Caudle said. Like her search for talent, OTLP is on the search for undiscovered screenwriters. “I will find the talent we need, Caudle said. “I have no doubt.” With that said,
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

OTLP and Freehelm also plan to announce a national contest for filmmaking teams to produce their version of the original short film The Keystroke Killer. The same script that got the attention of the executives – the original that is 20 pages. “We aren’t going to charge an entry fee, we just want to find production teams all over the nation that can help film different episodes that take the characters and plot to different states,” Freehelm said. “We consider it an audition director’s reel of sort. What better way to show us what you can do, than to produce a short film on our original script.”
Although each film production team will use the same script, each short film will be different. “The results will be different because of the team dynamics in each film production team,” Caudle says. Thus, each project will be a total different point of view for the film. “What we will be looking for is talented crew of directors and directors of photography, special effects, editors, make-up artists, and costume designers,” Freehelm said. The teams who submit a winning short film version will have the chance to become crewmembers on one or more of the episodes in the capacity they were in their short film production version. According to Caudle, this will give undiscovered directors, special effects people, editors, etc. a chance

into the door as well. The short films the teams create can be posted on the same face Book site for all to see and make comments. There will also be a cash prize awarded along with special awards by categories. “Think Oscars, but just for The Keystroke Killer” Caudle said. “This search is going to be fun and to my knowledge a television series has never been produced this way. I started in this industry as an extra. I have never forgotten my roots, or the difficulty to break into the business. This is my way of saying thanks to all of the Louisiana talented actors, filmmakers, and screenwriters.” As the contest develops, more information will be made available.
As lead producer and the creating screenwriter connected to Louisiana film industry, Caudle brings a unique perspective to the project. Caudle is not new to the film or television industry. She has numerous credits to her name; and is producing three reality shows - River Kings, The Baker Girls, and Vampire World. Just when you thought there could not be any more on Caudle’s plate, there is more. Caudle just published three more books

for the television and film industry called How to Write a Logline: Quick Guidebook for Screenwriters, How to Write a Synopsis: Quick Guidebook for Screenwriters, and How to Create One Pagers: Quick Guidebook for Screenwriters. These books come on the heels of her three-part book series, The Reality of Reality TV: Writing Effective Business Plans for Reality TV, for reality show creators translated into four languages and selling globally.
